D/HH Itinerant Services
NIA provides itinerant services to students with hearing loss (age 3-22) in district programs and/or mainstream education. Hearing service staff members help educational planning teams identify those who qualify for and are in need of hearing service intervention to ensure academic success.

D/HH Supervision
Technical assistance supervision for programs and teachers
- Review failed hearing screenings and hearing referrals
- Functional Hearing Assessments and provide recommendations if needed
- Program and curriculum development
- Professional Development for educators
- Links to specialized resources
- Coordinate site-based hearing clinics and district-specific hearing screening days
- Coordinate annual needs assessment *Supervise classroom and/or itinerant teachers serving deaf/hard-of hearing students, providing technical assistance on an ongoing regular basis
Who We Are
Our hearing team consists of Licensed Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and ISBE Approved Interpreters. Leadership and support is provided by supervisors who are also licensed in the area of Deaf and Hard of Hearing. On average our hearing team members have 15 of years experience. We access ongoing and continuing education through the Illinois Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Conference as well as other state and local training.
